Taipei, Taiwan – July 13, 2021 – Egis Technology Inc. (Egis, 6462.TWO), a leading provider of fingerprint sensors, has expanded its products to the automotive field. Egis is currently the only fingerprint sensor supplier for the two major car manufacturers in South Korea. Egis’ fingerprint products are not only in use in the Genesis model from Hyundai but has also been in KIA’s highest-end flagship RV K9 since this May. It is used in car activation and unlocking, along with the KIA Pay system replacing the original password mode, providing the flagship car with a sense of security and technology.
KIA’s fingerprint recognition system includes personalized settings. When the owner starts the car through Egis’ fingerprint sensor, the car will automatically adjust the seat position, position of the side/back mirrors, the internal temperature, and the dashboard according to the preferences of different drivers. It is a very convenient function for car owners. This technology also changes the layout of digital devices. The personalized fingerprint recognition system is also connected to the payment function (KIA Pay). It replaces the original car password with biometrics to authorize the payment function without physical credit cards. When parking fees or gas fees need to be paid, credit cards can be used through fingerprints, which integrates customers’ needs for safety and convenience. It will cover applications such as restaurant takeout and drive through payment in the future.
Egis Technology Inc. is committed to the design and development of fingerprint sensor ICs for smartphone applications, whether it is capacitive or under-display fingerprint sensors. With products and customers all over the world, Egis is the second-largest global supplier for fingerprint sensor shipments. Egis is also a pioneer in identity recognition products in the world. In recent years, Egis has entered the automotive industry and has become the only supplier of fingerprint identification for Hyundai and Kia. Egis got the fingerprint sensors ordered from Hyundai and shipped one after another since 2018. At 2020, Kia also imported the Egis fingerprint sensor design and mass production in May 2021.
